RAQUEL'S STORY

Raquel was sexually trafficked by her grandparents. Her grandfather would invite his friends over to the house and then sell her repeatedly. Not only that, but she was raped by her grandfather on a regular basis. Her mother was a drug addict who would also sell her for sex as a way of supporting her addiction. This nightmare lasted many years and caused a great deal of trauma. When Raquel came to The Garden House, she was withdrawn and quiet. She struggled with self-esteem and was significantly behind in school. Today, she is thriving in the classroom, is a leader among the children at the shelter, and is often seen laughing, dancing, and enjoying simply being a teenager.
